The Smartsolar 100/15 from Victron Energy (MPN SCC110015060R) is an MPPT solar charge controller with a maximum charging current of 15A for charging 12V and 24V batteries. Unlike the Bluesolar 100/15, the Smart version has built-in Bluetooth, so you no longer need to buy a Bluetooth dongle. For communication with other Victron devices such as the Color Control GX or the MPPT Control, a VE.Direct port is still available as well.

The built-in Bluetooth in the SmartSolar series is the wireless way to set up, monitor and update the controller using Apple and Android smartphones, tablets or other devices. The optional MPPT WireBox-S 100-15 from Victron Energy is the ideal addition to your SmartSolar charge controller. It safely covers the cable entries and connection terminals of the controller and protects them from external influences and accidental contact.

Especially under overcast skies, when the light intensity changes constantly, an extremely fast MPPT controller increases the energy yield by up to 30 % compared with PWM charge controllers and by up to 10 % compared with slower MPPT controllers.

Intelligent load output

Deep discharge of the battery can be prevented by connecting all loads to the load output. The load output disconnects the loads when the battery has been discharged to a preset voltage. Alternatively, an intelligent battery management algorithm can be selected: see BatteryLife.
The load output is short-circuit proof.

Battery Life: intelligent battery management

If the solar charge controller is unable to fully charge the battery within one day, the battery status keeps switching back and forth between "partially charged" and "end of discharge". This operating mode (no regular full charge) damages a lead-acid battery within a few weeks or months.

The Battery Life algorithm monitors the battery's state of charge and, if necessary, raises the load disconnect threshold day by day (i.e. the load is disconnected earlier) until the energy harvested is sufficient to charge the battery to almost 100 %. From that point on, the load disconnect threshold is modulated so that charging to almost 100 % is achieved about once a week.
