The Orion Tr-Smart DC-DC from Victron Energy (MPN ORI242440140) is a professional, DC-to-DC adaptive 3-stage charger with integrated Bluetooth, known on the market as a battery-to-battery (B2B) charger. The charge booster is suitable for use in dual-battery systems in vehicles or on boats, where the alternator and the starter battery are used to charge the service battery. The charger can be used in 12V or 24V systems and is suitable for both lead-acid and lithium batteries. Models of up to 400W are available, and an unlimited number of units can be connected in parallel to increase the output power.

Monitoring, changing settings and updating the charger when new software features become available can be done with any Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, tablet or other device.

Adaptive 3-stage charging algorithm: constant current – constant voltage - float

  • With lead-acid batteries, it is important to keep the absorption time short after shallow discharges to avoid overcharging the battery. After a deep discharge, the constant-voltage period is automatically extended to ensure that the battery is fully charged.
  • For lithium batteries, the absorption time is fixed, by default 2 hours.
  • Alternatively, a fixed output voltage can be selected.

Remote on/off

A remote on/off switch or a relay contact can be connected to the two-pole connector. Alternatively, terminal H (right) of the two-pole connector can be switched to a battery positive terminal, or terminal L (left) of the two-pole connector to the battery negative terminal (or, for example, to the chassis of a vehicle).
